All the details about the circumnavigation
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia – Head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov will tell about the goals and objectives of the expedition and its concept.
Rector of the Kaliningrad State Technical University (KSTU) Vladimir Volkogon and Head of the Department of Navigation and Practical training of Baltic State Academy of Fishing Fleet (BSA), Head of expedition media centre Mikhail Novikov will answer the questions about preparations for the circumnavigation, sailing routes, cultural events, port calls.
The route of the circumnavigation of the training and sailing ships partially repeats the voyage of the expedition of Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev.
The round-the-world expedition of training sailing fleet of the Agency will demonstrate Russia's position among world's leading marine states. Russia will also act as an Ambassador for Peace. This mission is symbolized with white sails on the three vessels.
The expedition will begin in November-December period of 2019: the sailing vessels will put to sea from Vladivostok, Kronstadt and Kaliningrad. The voyage will be finished at the end of 2020. During the voyage the three ships are going to sail about 100 thousand nautical miles.
Crews of the barques will be made up by cadets from Rosrybolovstvo educational institutions. For short periods of time the crew will be also joined by trainees from other higher institutions of our country.
The culmination of the expedition in February 2020 will be a meeting of three sailing vessels in the South Atlantic (South Georgia Islands). In the area between the ports of Ushuaia (Argentina) and Cape town (South Africa), where the circumnavigation route is as close as possible to Antarctica, the Sedov, the Kruzenshtern and the Pallada will carry out joint maneuvering under sail.
