VIP guests on board of the Sedov in Las Palmas
Call to Las Palmas was marked with a reception of honored guests.
Gonzalo Santana-Honorary Consul of Russia on the Canary Islands, Oleg Kolomin-First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Spain, Augusto Hidalgo-mayor of Las Palmas and Luis Ibarca-Head of the Port arrived on board. Representatives of local media and television provided coverage of this event. The guest and hosts exchanged memorable gifts on the occasion of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. The plaquettes and a souvenir plate presented by the visitors enriched Sedov's museum collection. The arrival of the vessel was a significant event for Las Palmas. Local journalists asked a lot about the history of the vessel, her traditions and ship management. Subsequently, there were numerous publications in Spanish media about the ship herself and the circumnavigation.
After the solemn speeches and interviews, the guests went to the Assembly hall to have a look at Pavel Mikhailov's exhibition. Mikhailov took part in the famous expedition 200 years ago. The artist made sketches of discovered islands, views of cities and settlements, drew portraits of aborigines, carefully depicted samples of exotic flora and fauna. The works made by Pavel Mikhailov served as a documentary proof of the priority of Russian researchers in the discovery of Antarctica.
The guests were asked to a table to enjoy chef's specialities.
After such a warm welcome the port authorities offered to prolong Sedov's stay at Las Palmas for one more day. So, this extra day was decided to be spent as an "open board day". The Sedov was welcoming visitors and guests.
