STS Sedov is preparing to call at South Africa (updated)

The ship's copper railings were polished to perfection, the deck was scrubbed and last, but not least, there were medical info sessions conducted on board in connection with viral infections.
Totally, the passage from Montevideo to Cape Town took more than a month. After all the repairs and preparations, a big spring cleaning was carried out just before calling at the port.

Safety of navigation and crew is the first priority of the round-the-world expedition. Since the world community is currently concerned with the coronavirus pandemic, the authorities of the Federal Agency for fisheries and the Baltic State Academy have ordered to take measures on the ships to prevent the infection.

Sedov's Academic Operations Officer Vladimir Mikhedenko informed the crew and cadets who gathered at ship's assembly hall about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of viral diseases. Ship's medical assistant reminded about the rules of personal hygiene and the need to wear respiratory masks in ports.

Then the subjects were switched from the medical issues to pre-arrival and informational ones. A head of the practice, Pyotr Solodovnik and a cadet Artem Chepel made a presentation of main attractions of Cape Town. Then the audience got acquainted with one of the issues of a popular Russian travel TV show on the most southern city of Africa.


21.00 (March 16, 2020).Upon Sedov's arrival, the crew and cadets will be checked for coronavirus. There will be no public events on board (including "Open Board"). There are not gong to be any shore leaves on the insistence of the medical authorities. Food and fuel supplies will be replenished at the port of Cape Town.
