We follow traditions of round-the-world expeditions

Rector of KSTU Vladimir Volkogon met journalists and future members of the expedition-representatives of the Museum of the World Ocean.
The press conference on the upcoming circumnavigation was held at the Museum of the World Ocean. The Head of the Museum, Svetlana Sivkova, introduced her candidates and told about the tasks set for them: "Senior researcher of the Museum, art historian Pavel Matviyets and artist Yevgeniy Mashkovskiy will collect stuff for Museum exhibitions, conduct scientific observations, make sketches. The stuff, sketches and samples brought by them will go to the State Fund, and the Museum will make an exhibition-report at the new building "Planet Ocean"”.

Vladimir Volkogon briefly outlined the theses of the upcoming circumnavigation of the world and reported on the preparatory work done. He stressed that Russia is implementing such a large-scale project for the first time. It is also the first time when the sea practice will be taken not only by Rosrybolovstvo cadets but also by the guys from Ministry of transport universities and Ministry of education institutions. There are going to be the shipboys from public organizations too. The voyage schedule has been accepted and approved. The rector has said that changes are possible. The number of ports or cultural events can be increased.

For instance, the capital of the Republic of Peru Lima has recently been added to the route. The agreements were reached just a couple of days ago. The Kruzenshtern will call at the port of Bizerte (Tunisia) at the invitation of public organizations, and on May 9 she will take part in the marine parade in the hero city of Novorossiysk. The second stage of the voyage will begin in March 2020, it will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory. The banner of Victory will be symbolically carried around the world within the framework of Sails of Peace project. The Sails of Peace will remind all people of the world about abolition of the Brown Plague of the 20th century-fascism and heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Mr Volkogon has assured the auduence that the management of the University complex and the crews of the vessels, are ready to create the most favourable conditions for the work of all participants of the expedition, since the quality of the materials brought depends on convenience in daily life and productivity of perfomance. Many of them will be scientific and historical evidence of the unique marine project 2020. The rector promised to find a storage location for future museum exhibits while the Watman paper can ne kept under the mattresses.

"I was glad that two employees of the Museum of the World Ocean will stay on board till the very end of the voyage. Their presence is a nod to old tradition of taking artists and ethnographers to circumnavigations. We hope that some masterpieces will enrich collections of museums and galleries.

Cadets will find communication with these creative people useful and important. Our guys will get additional skills and extra knowledge, broaden their mind and improve their cultural awareness. After all, no matter how important scientific, artistic, informational tasks are, the main thing in the expedition is the fulfillment of the state task for the implementation of sea practice programs."

Pavel Matviyets and Yevgeniy Mashkovskiy promised to take an active part in educational process. They are ready to communicate with the guys, give lectures on art, conduct master classes and actively participate in daily routine. Pavel and Yevgeniy will give a commemorative silver token to the Sedov ship museum. The token was specially made for the upcoming circumnavigation by the Kaliningrad jewelers.
