Pallada finished the memorial regatta
On February 20, at 00.00, the 200-mile regatta dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was started.
The participants had arrived to the starting line in advance and stopped the main engines. So, the ships appeared to be at the mercy of the waves and wind. Soon the regatta began. The regatta start was preceded by joint maneuvers held a day before. The maneuvers helped the ships to coordinate the details and to keep safe distance while sailing. Pallada's crew bravely bore all the misfortunes during the regatta. Firstly she got into gale force 7 area, then blasts of wind tore her five sails to pieces, so the Pallada finished up in third place. However, there are no winners or losers in this regatta. The very idea of the event is rather symbolic. It underlines that every participant of the regatta belongs in the history of Maritime Russia and shares the traditions of Russian sailing fleet. The key task of the expedition is to remind the whole world about the Russian seafarers who made the great geographical discovery of Antarctica 200 years ago.
Mst Nikolay Zorchenko thanked the crew, cadets and ship boys for their dedication and hard work with the sails.
