The Pallada has crossed the Equator
The frigate Pallada has been sailing in the Pacific Ocean for four weeks. More than 3.5 thousand nautical miles have been dropped astern.
A crew of any vessel must be able to perform their emergency duties on ship alarms no matter what type on a ship they are working on. For this purpose, regular trainings and drills are conducted. One should always be ready for any incidents at sea, so the crew must be routinely trained. So, the ship abandon alarm was sounded on the Pallada. It was a high time to practice jumping overboard while wearing life jackets. The freeboard heigh was about four meters.
The key factor of any training is its safety. Two fast rescue boats were launched, a safety rail was stretched along the training area, two storm ladders and the gangway were prepared, lookouts were posted on the forecastle and poop deck. By Master's order and under the supervision of Academic Operations Officer, the cadets began jumping overboard (wearing lifejackets). Undoubtedly, it was one more test for our cadets — a mistake at using the lifejacket can lead to injury. Therefore, each guy was instructed on proper position of hands and upper body during the jump and staying afloat.
At the end of the ship's drills, the crew and cadets were instructed not to jump off the ship for fun.
Today, on November 25, at noon, the frigate crossed the Equator.
