18.08.2019 Rosrybolovstvo

The Kruzenshtern and the Sedov are about to have hot laying up after a busy season of 2019

For the first time both sailing vessels are welcoming visitors together, on August 24 at the Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port. We hope the weather is not upsetting the plans.
The Kruzenshtern is going to be the first to return to the port of registry, her pilotage through the Kaliningrad sea channel is scheduled for the morning of August 20. There is going to be a ceremonial parade on board on occasion of a safe return trip. The arrival of the Sedov is expected on August 23. The algorithm of life on board in the home port is going to be the same.

There are going to be excursions for cadets from different ports. We will make an introductory tour for the cadets to the educational complex of the Federal Agency for Fishery (KSTU, BSA RF, KMC) and to main tourist attractions. We hope the guys will shape an idea of our city and will recall it not only as the port of their vessel's registry but also as a real maritime city. Heads of practice will announce days off for visiting Kaliningrad. A day off can be provided on the following conditions: there should be no complaints from mentors, no watches and no duties.

Upon finishing the practice program both vessels must complete the repair works as there is a large marine project ahead: the expedition of training and sailing vessels of Rosrybolovstvo is beginning in December 2019. The Sedov and the Pallada are starting their circumnavigation while the Krusenstern is making her transatlantic crossing. Russian seafarers are dedicating their voyage to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev, as well as to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Kruzenshtern will be sailing for 9 months, while Sedov's circumnavigation is going to take a year. Before such a long separation, both training sailing ships are welcoming their friends and visitors on board. The guests can make a tour of the vessels on August 24, from 10.00 to 16.00 o’clock in Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port, berths 18 and 19. For the first time ever two world's oldest training vessels are going to receive guests simultaneously on the territory of Kaliningrad. If you want to see the vessels, please, have on hand your passport (adults) or birth certificates (children). Citizens of foreign countries should apply for a pass to the regional Border Guard Service office in 2 business days at least. Please, refrain from taking big backpacks and bags, wear comfortable sports shoes.

This navigational season a number of events of should be labelled with "for the first time" tag. The perfect example of such an occasion is a call of the Sedov in French Rouen and Bordeaux. These ports had been inaccessible for the Sedov because of bridges and other facilities across the Seine and the Gironde rivers. French authorities have conducted a wide range of works which allowed the vessel to visit the Maritime holidays. The Sedov and the Kruzenshtern were quite literally starring at the festivals. Totally the ships have visited 5 foreign ports within the framework of 2019 navigation.

In her third voyage the Sedov called in the port of Murmansk – the capital of the Arctic. Mass media described hard weather conditions and opposing wind which the vessel had to withstand. On her way back the same wind was in Sedov's favour. Master Evgeniy Romashkin reported that the cadets and the crew worked well under sail and covered a distance of 222 nautical miles. This was a kind of a record that the ship, the Master and the crew beat all together.
