First among the equals

On November 1, 2019, the training sailing vessel Pallada was the first of three barques of Rosrybolovstvo to start the circumnavigation.

A solemn departure ceremony was organized on 33rd berth of the Pacific Fleet port. The event was attended by Deputy head of Rosrybolovstvo Vasily Sokolov, Vice-Governor of Primorsky Krai Alexander Kostenko, Chairman of the legislative Assembly of Primorsky Krai Alexander Rolik, head of Vladivostok Oleg Gumenyuk, commander of the headquarters of Pacific Fleet - Vice Admiral Sergei Rekish, rector of FESTFU Oleg Shcheka, rector of KSTU Vladimir Volkogon. Residents and guests of the city came to see off the Pallada.

The event was attended by silent drill team and the brass band of the Pacific Fleet.

Pallada's voyage will take 222 days and will take the route Vladivostok-Apia-Papeete-Valparaiso-Ushuaia-Cape town-Port Louis-Singapore-Muara-Nagasaki-Vladivostok.

During the expedition, the sailing fleet of Rosrybolovstvo will call at more than 40 ports on four continents. Cultural and educational events are planned in each port, both on shore and on Board of the ships.

The trip will culminate in the meeting of the three sailing vessels in the southernmost part of the Atlantic ocean, where they will make a joint maneuver and take part in a 200-mile regatta.


The expedition is scheduled to be completed in December 2020.

The Pallada is the youngest of the three sailing vessels. She was built in 1989 at the Gdansk shipyards. Within her lifetime the tall ship has sailed about 900,000 nautical miles. During the circumnavigation of the world in 1997, the Pallada spent 311 days at sea.

Overall length including bowsprit-108.6 m. Sail area-2771 sq. m. The height of the masts above the waterline is 49.5 m.

He became a Master of the Pallada in 1993 and was serving in this position until 2010. In 2011 he became a Master of the training sailing ship Sedov In 2012, he headed circumnavigation of the Sedov. From 2013 to 2017, he was working as the Master of the Pallada again. Since 2017 he was employed as an acting rector and first Vice-rector of the FESTFU. On 18 July 2019, he returned to the Pallada as a Master.
