Ilya Shestakov visited the barque Sedov at the Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia – Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov visited the barque Sedov on the eve of the round-the-world expedition. The expedition of Rosrybolovstvo's sailing ships is scheduled to begin in November-December period of 2019.
The day before, on August 23, the Sedov returned to Kaliningrad from her 2019 final training voyage. The head of Rosrybolovstvo together with the Master of the vessel Evgeny Romashkin visually inspected the engine room, radio room, board church, cabins of crew and cadets, which had been given a new look after a major repair. Rector of Kaliningrad State Technical University (KSTU) Vladimir Volkogon, who manages the sailing ships Sedov and Kruzenshtern, told the guest about the final stage of preparation for the round-the-world expedition of 2019-2020, scheduled to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the Antarctic by Russian seafarers and the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Both sailing vessels are now moored at the port. August 24 was a day of a milestone event for the city – the Sedov and the Kruzenshtern were welcoming visitors simultaneously.
During the navigation season of 2019 the Kruzenshtern and the Sedov were the sites of sea practice for about 720 cadets from specialized educational institutions of Rosrybolovstvo and MSTU (Murmansk). The voyages enriched practical sea skills of the cadets, helped the guys to achieve common goals by means of teamwork while walking around the new ports brought them a lot of positive emotions.
The barques are staying at the port until mid-September. Then the repair works are to be scheduled before the large-scale expedition.
